He ran against Aaron Burr. They both received 73 electoral votes and the tie had to be resolved by Congress.
He served two terms and was happy to get back home.

- The University of Virginia
- Governor of Virginia
- Vice President under John Adams
- Envoy
- And for doubling the size of the United States with the Louisiana Purchase
